Baseball Shines on Both Sides of the Ball, Wins Sixth-Straight Game at Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Delaware baseball (15-14, 6-4 CAA) did not allow a run after the third inning and scored eight unanswered runs as it earned a series-opening victory at Northeastern (23-6, 6-4), beating the Huskies 10-3 on Friday.
The Blue Hens offense struck early, as two batters into the game, Dan Covino drove in JJ Freeman on a double. Josearmando Diaz followed with an opposite-field single, his first of four hits on the afternoon.
Starter Bryce Greenly allowed runs in the first and third innings with Northeastern heading to the top of the fourth with a 3-2 lead, but it was all Blue Hens after that.
Aidan Kane lined a two-run homer down the right-field line to give the Hens a 4-3 lead, an advantage the team would never relinquish.
Delaware added six more unanswered runs in the final five innings, with Joey Loynd driving in four and Diaz adding his second run driven in of the game.
Eli Atiya fired four scoreless frames in relief, allowing just two singles and striking out three, earning his team-leading second save of the season, finishing off Delaware's sixth-straight victory in a 10-3 affair.
Freeman, Diaz, Greenly and Loynd each had three hits or more while Loynd, Diaz and Kane each drove in multiple runs. Delaware struck out just four times as an offense.
Delaware will aim for its second-straight conference series win and seventh-straight victory on Saturday. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m with Carter Welch taking the mound.
