NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team downed American University 2-1 at Grant Stadium on Saturday night.
With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens overall record becomes 4-0-0.
The six seniors and one graduate student were honored after the game for senior night.
"I'm so happy the boys were able to pull together and get a win for the seniors tonight," head coach Tommy McMenemy said. "This group of seniors took a chance on a new staff in a difficult period for the program, and the coaches will always be grateful to the players and their families for that. They have done more than anyone to change the mentality and culture of the team and have come to embody the values of Delaware Men's Soccer; they have set a real precedent for the classes that will succeed them.
The game itself was tough, and we had to weather some early pressure from a very good American team. Once we found our own rhythm in possession and started to break their pressure, I thought we looked really good, and our forwards got the job done again after JoJo kept us in it early. I would like to have seen the game out more comfortably, but we managed the adversity of conceding late, and I'm proud that were able to see it out with a very young group."
